Growing up I was never a big soccer fan, matter of fact I hated the sport. Couldn’t tell you why. Probably because I fucking sucked at it but oh well. What turned me on to soccer was the video game FIFA 12. I was hooked. And then I experienced watching my first World Cup, in 2014. Making my love for the sport even greater. But for a soccer fan living in the US you don’t have any good soccer you can watch. One wish I have is to experience ‘El Clasico’, the longtime rival of soccer clubs FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
This rivalry might be one of the greatest in sports history. Going as far back as the 1930s for this rivalry, remarkable. Almost every single game played between these 2 clubs is intense and usually a great game to watch. Both having some of the greatest players to ever grace the pitch. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the faces of the rivalry at the monent. Easily the 2 best players in the world, going head to head multiple times every season. Truly remarkable to watch. 2 of the top clubs in the world, from the 2 biggest cities in spain, with the 2 best players in the world. Honestly can’t get any better than that.
The reason I want to go is basically for everything I listed above, but that’s not all. If you’ve never watched a soccer game then you don’t know what the atmosphere is like in the stadiums. Soccer, biggest sport in the world I believe, is what people overseas live and breathe by. comparable to watching your favorite team play. They have chants, they talk shit to the players, it’s phenomenal. And it’s a fucking party when somebody scores, granted it doesn’t happen much, but still. Like during the world cup, people from across the globe travel to the set venue and root for their teams. Stadiums always buzzing.
One time in my life, I really do hope to go watch El Clasico. Hopefully soon so I can watch Messi and Ronaldo play in person before they retire. Just living in the USA sucks when it comes to soccer, the MLS fucking blows and our national team can’t even qualify for the World Cup.
