The Steroid Hall of Fame

So, today the 2018 MLB Hall of Fame class was announced, and once again some of the best players to ever play are still not being elected in. And it’s all because they used steroids… who fucking cares? I understand these players broke a rule since steroids were apart of the banned substance list, but it was never tested for until 2003. So far players like Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGwire haven’t been elected into the HOF. Shit’s bogus.

I grew up watching some of the best baseball players to ever play the game of baseball. I’m a Cubs fan and I had the luxury to watch Sammy Sosa on a daily basis. The home run race between Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire in 1998 was one of the craziest things to happen in baseball. Outside of the Cubs winning the World Series in 2016, but that’s besides the point. You can look up video clips of Sosa and McGwire going at it, people filled the streets of Waveland Ave beyond the left field wall at Wrigley Field. Trying to get the record breaking home run balls Sosa was launching into the night. Trying to be a part of history. These were some of the best times in baseball.

A-rod was the same way, arguably the best player to ever play, but since he used steroids he’s being shunned from the Hall. World Series champ, multiple MVPs, one of the best hitters to play. The mans stats speak loud enough to be a HoFer and be in the conversation for best ever. Barry Bonds, if you don’t know who he is you need to fuck right off and go think about what you’ve been doing wrong in life. Barry hit 762 homeruns in his career, 762… that’s the most ever for any player. This man was so terrifying to teams that he was once intentionally walked with the bases loaded. The ultimate sign of respect there. But again, he was another juicer so he is being punished for it. Dumb if you ask me.

I understand that theses players broke a rule but they are apart of whats known as the “Steroid era”, one of the most exciting times in the history of baseball. Players were hitting a shit ton of home runs and a bunch of runs were being driven in. No name players were having killer years because they were using steroids. Now, I do think these guys will make it into the Hall, but its taking longer then it should. I don’t give a shit that they broke a rule, there was a shit ton of people doing it. But only because they were caught is the reason they’re not in. Just stupid if you ask me.

  1. I have been a rant about the “chemical McCarthysim” about the silliness in the hysteria about steroids. I’ve got a host of reasons for that I’ve written about time and time again, but the big one is I’m not enough of a self-appointed moralist to deem one form of cheating better or worse than another. And let’s be honest, whether you’re corking bats, doctoring balls, or stealing signs, baseball is a game built on cheating.
