Sinaloa Cartel has become the biggest drug trafficking cartel in the world. Controlling over 80% of drug trades, they have become the most dangerous, and wanted organization to this day.
El Chapo’s arrest in 2016 has been the biggest capture for the Mexican Government against its war on drugs. El Chapo Guzman was then extradited to the US in 2017 to face charges.
Damaso Lopez Serrano, 29, has plead guilty to drug-trafficking charges in a federal court in San Diego on January 10, admitting he managed shipments of thousands of pounds of meth, cocaine, and heroin to the US.
Lopez Serrano had initially crossed the US/Mexico to turn himself in to the US authorities. Serrano’s surrender makes him the highest ranked member of the Mexican Cartel to ever surrender. Not only has he surrendered, but he has also agreed to cooperate, and forfeit over $1 million. Serrano has to face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years.
Lopez Serrano has been known to be the flashy, and most violent in the Sinaloa Cartel. He was also presumed to be the new boss in charge after EL Chapo’s arrest. What this means to the war on drugs is HUGE! Lopez Serrano has access to information that El Chapo won’t give up. He has information on sources used for obtaining cocaine from Columbia, and how the transport it. Serrano has information on routes, labs, means of transporting, and distribution networks in the US.
Lopez Serrano’s attempt to bring down the Sinaloa Cartel can be the most dangerous mission yet. He has given up names and information on those that are most in power such as; Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, Guzman’s partner who is believed to be running the Sinaloa cartel, as well as two of his sons — Ismael Zambada “Mayito Flaco” Sicairos, and Ismael “Mayito Gordo” Zambada.
Among the names, and information given by Lopez Serrano, he has also provided the US authorities with information on two of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman’s sons who are involved with the cartel — Ivan “Chapito” Archivaldo Guzman, and Jesus “El Gordo” Alfredo Guzman.
The danger of all the information provided is, more violence. Lopez Serrano’s information could lead to the capture of the present Sinaloa Cartel boss Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, and the will put a fracture into the organization for the younger power hungry generation. Things will start to get messy once the El Chapo’s sons start claiming power, and Ismael’s sons start wanting that power. This will lead to the split up of a cartel, which sounds good right? WRONG. The fracture will lead to a split, that will create a new war among cartels.
The only way to become the most powerful cartel is through violence, and money. Whoever can move the most amount of drugs, and eliminate the most amount of threats will be on top. That is all done through another cartel war.
